On Monday 27 May, the top 16 Year 9 students were invited to compete in the University of Newcastle’s STEM Competition. A variety of schools from across the Pilbara competed at the Karratha Leisureplex in multiple engineering challenges, where students were required to work together as a team and play to their strengths.
Challenges included creating bionic hands, Mars rovers, becoming IKEA master builders and building a bridge to withstand carts carrying gold. It made me so proud to watch our students band together to support their teams, communicate effectively and use their creative skills.
We love a good challenge and the other participating schools gave us a good run for our money, however, we were a strong team to beat and ultimately the day was ours!
Looking forward to the 2020 competition!
