The Career Advisor Indigenous Support for Rio Tinto, Mr Fred Ryan, recently visited our College. We are organising how best we can close the gap between school and the workplace. Mr Ryan provided information about Rio Tinto’s Career Readiness by giving an overview on career pathways, working at Rio Tinto, what skills they look for in an applicant, how to apply, barriers to employment, service providers as well as support around their recruitment process. Rio Tinto also host the Vacation Program, Indigenous Scholarship Program and Cadetship Program.
St Luke’s College together with Rio Tinto are looking at introducing ‘A Day in a Life at Rio Tinto’, giving students the opportunity to visit various industry areas within the Rio Tinto umbrella. Later in the year we hope to arrange a Year 10 student site visit as well as a ‘Speed Careering’ workshop. The opportunities will assist students with narrowing down their pathway and subject selection options by finding out what professions Rio Tinto has to offer.
St Luke’s College students from Year 10 – 12 will have the opportunity to engage with the Rio Tinto team at the upcoming Careers Expo held at the Karratha Leisureplex on Wednesday, 12 May 2021.
