We were very lucky at St Luke’s to have had educational speakers from the Parliament of Western Australia visit our school and facilitate a Pop-Up-Parliament incursion for our Year 7 and 8 students. Students were told the history of the parliament and some very intriguing stories about past ministers. Students were also given the opportunity to take on different roles within parliament and went through the process of turning a bill into a law. The incursion was extremely valuable, as it links to the Civics and Citizenship Curriculum in Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS), and it also promoted the importance of individuals’ voices within our Australian democracy.
